I found the term “Enterprise 2.0” interesting. I can see where social networks and blogs can be beneficial to the work place but it can also be an added task to some or even a distraction. Just over the last few months employees have been given the option to install instant messaging through Outlook to communicate internally without having to email to ask simple question. I still find myself emailing to document conversations just to CYA.
Some benefits may include that information or communications can be sent across all nine Gatorade plants. Employees can share out their experiences or problems they have to seek guidance. But doesn’t email already do this?
The drawbacks could have to take the time to read multiple posts about a subject that does not affect a specific facility. This can be time consuming in an already fast paced environment. Setting aside time to check or even post a comment takes time that most people find they don’t have.
As new technologies emerge for the business world, people will need support around time management and setting priorities so that using these technologies is seen as an asset and not a time burden.
